Sustainable ikat pillows for Christmas: one gift for the family!
Sustainability is becoming a matter of paramount importance. 2020 has taught us a lot of lessons. Some of these lessons have been life changing effecting how we live our lives going forward. Home has become a centre of everything – personal life, work life, hangout place, often with friends on the end of a town (or the end of the world via Zoom). This is why being home has to feel good and that feeling is better be achieved using sustainable methods. This post is dedicated to sustainability and how our ikat pillow covers can make fabulous Christmas gifts.
Pandemic and a decluttering of the century
Who didn’t go through at least one round of a decluttering this year? I personally have been through two, the third one is ongoing but not as eagerly as the first two. I sold things, I gave away things, I did everything to empty the space. This is true for many of my family and friends too. Stuck at home we have been craving space, a room to breath. Blessed were those who had access to the nature during the lockdown. Others, myself included, set themselves on a path to embrace minimalism.
Embracing {warm} minimalism
Spanish flu of the last century ended the era of Victorian wallpapers, elaborate furniture and heavy decor. Dust meant germs and this is how design moved towards minimalism and “less is more” esthetic. This Covid-19 pandemic is taking us to the next level. Traumatized by isolation and hungry for social interactions, the nature of this minimalism comes with a twist – minimalism which is warm. One of the ways to achieve that comfort and warmth is through natural organic textiles.
Sustainable ikat throw pillows for Christmas: one gift for all!
With Black Friday and cyber Monday behind us many of us are now fully focused on a task of Christmas gifting. This year we will probably get a little creative though. Who needs another sweater? Not me. Another pair of pants to wear once a month maybe? Not me! I feel it is not only me who feels this way. Our priorities have changed. “More things” is the last thing we want after the decluttering of the century. More warmth, more time together, more love and comfort – these are the intangibles we have been craving with this pandemic.
With that in mind I have developed a gifting approach – one gift for all! A gift which will provide comfort and coziness to the entire family and will not clutter your closets. A gift which will enhance the greatest wealth we have – us being cozy, happy, healthy and together. In case you missed it, here is a list of 22 gift ideas for the whole family from “House Beautiful” this year. We would like to offer our own gift idea which is also sustainable!
How about a gift of ikat pillow covers made of natural handwoven fabrics? Pillows made of natural cotton and silk blend fabrics that are pleasant to touch?
Covers made of natural fabrics that you actually want against your skin while reading a book or watching a movie?
Pillow covers infused with a vibrant energy of color, beauty and artisanal hand weaving traditions?
A few notes on sustainability of our ikat pillow covers
Ikat fabrics of which our ikat pillows are made were handwoven on hand looms, and this is why they are limited in quantities. Since they are not mass produced, they have less effect on the environment.
Ikat dying process of the fabrics is entirely manual and requires no electricity. Hand looms do not operate on electricity either. That’s zero negative impact on the environment.
Our ikat pillow covers are made of silk and cotton which are cultivated and grown locally in Uzbekistan. This means zero CO2 emissions caused by transportation polluting our Planet.
With an exception of a zipper used as a concealed zipper closure there’s nothing that’s not organic in our Ikat pillow covers.
These ikat pillows are a sure way to make your home cosy, beautiful and unique. Please browse our limited selection of ikat and suzani pillow covers here and remember – we ship all orders over $99 free to any part of the world. Code at the checkout: COZYHOME.
