They are crafted from the leftover Ikat fabrics that are used in making large-sized pillow covers, table runners or other things we do for our clients. Our Uzbek Ikat fabrics are artisanal textiles. They come from different areas of Uzbekistan with Margilan being the heart of Uzbekistan’s Ikat making.

At UzbekAlive, we treasure the handwork and the intricate ikat weaving involved in making every inch of ikat fabric. Every leftover piece represents someone’s hard work and energy. We truly value ikat artisans’  time. At the end of the day, it is someone’s life that gets translated into the fabric. Throwing even a small piece of fabric away means undervaluing someone’s love and care for the art of ikat making. By using all the leftover pieces, we help minimize waste and, hence, follow and promote sustainable practices. Fewer leftover pieces mean less environmental pollution.

For our boudoir ikat pillows we mix traditional Uzbek ikat with natural fabrics like linen, silk, or cotton. Our pillows don’t contain any synthetic materials. Hence, when one day they will eventually find their way to a landfill, they degrade easily and sustainably. On the other hand, synthetic materials can take years or even centuries to break down.

Designing Boudoir Ikat Pillow Covers

Our Boudoir Ikat pillow covers are made of our own ikat fabrics which are approximately 50% silk and 50% cotton. For example, for our Green, Red, Beige Boudoir Ikat and Linen Pillow Cover we used a leftover piece from an ikat table runner and a natural linen. This Boudoir Ikat pillow cover is stupendous and can easily go with any color theme.

Another hidden gem is our Light and Blue Silk Velvet Boudoir Ikat Pillow Cover. t is made of a hand-woven ikat silk velvet called “al bahmal” and linen fabric.
