UzbekAlive was created by a small group of enthusiasts as a channel for promotion of work of Uzbek artisans. After several years of contemplating, in 2002 we finally put our efforts together and launched this website.

Every great success story starts with a garage and an idea. Ours was no exception. In years of running UzbekAlive, through trials and errors, we learned several things, the major one of them being – we do have something unique and beautiful to offer to the world. In fact, we have become known as a place to shop for unique ikat textiles and home ikat decor. It humbles us to think that dresses made of our fabrics were worn for Nobel awards ceremonies and our ikat pillow covers decorate beautiful homes around the world. It is not without joy and pride we customize our jewelry boxes to be given as unforgettable wedding gifts, or as an engagement ring box for that very special occasion. Our silk ikat scarves are worn by style-conscious ladies from Tokyo to New York.

Everything on this website was made in Uzbekistan with a tremendous amount of care. We work directly with artisans, who live in Uzbekistan. All materials used for production of our ikat fabrics are sourced locally in Uzbekistan. We take pride in being small, transparent, self sustainable, independent of global corporations and credit institutions.

Mass production is not what we do- does this planet need more staff? We carry a limited number of units of each product at a time and, as everything that is handmade, the patterns and designs will be very similar, but never absolutely identical.

All items in this store are fair-traded –artisans would not have sold us anything unless we paid a fair price. There was no child labor involved in the production of any item we sell; in fact, by working with artisans, we help them give their children a better education.
