Uzbeks traditionally don't use table runners. In fact, traditionally Uzbeks don't even use tables - a typical Uzbek home had only low tables called "khon takhta" which was used for eating. These days in large cities many Uzbek families adopted Western furniture while in the villages you can still see how minimalistic and textile-rich life can be.
Runners came to Central Asia with the Western civilization. While in Europe table runners were invented as a way to protect tablecloths from spills and drops of food, in Uzbekistan table runners are a pure table decor. We, in UzbekAlive, added our own touch to the art of table decorating by using our traditional ikat fabrics.
Front fabric: luxurious hand dyed and hand woven artisanal Uzbek silk / cotton ikat fabric
Back fabric: unbleached natural cotton fabric
The table runner is hand washable in cold water with a mild detergent.
