Floral white pink green hand embroidered suzani pillow cover from Uzbekistan

Our collection of suzani embroidered pillow covers includes hand embroidered suzani pillow covers as well as machine embroidered ones. The base fabric of each suzani pillow cover is an undyed cotton cloth. Embroidery threads are hand dyed silk floss.

The term suzani derives from a Farsi word for a needle, ‘suzan”. According to Uzbek traditions girls learnt an art of suzani embroidery from an early age and embroidered various things for their dowries. These embroidered pieces were bedcovers, pillow covers and various other textile items. Soul finds its reflection in a work that the soul makes. This is why, one could read a character of a girl by inspecting her suzani. Is she joyous? is she peaceful? Does she pay attention to details?

Uzbek hand-dyed and handloom woven cotton / silk blend ikat fabric depicting ripe, fresh and juicy fruits hanging from the branches of trees. The fabric has a beautiful moire pattern.

This specific pattern was used by Kit Kemp, a British designer for ikat lampshades at The Soho Hotel in London, UK.

Please note that this cotton and silk blend ikat fabric is a different dyelot of "Fruity and Juicy" ikat pattern than the one we already have in stock. This dyelot has a more mat antiqued look to it and it is 4 cm (1.9") wider.
