Floral white pink green hand embroidered suzani pillow cover from Uzbekistan

Our collection of suzani embroidered pillow covers includes hand embroidered suzani pillow covers as well as machine embroidered ones. The base fabric of each suzani pillow cover is an undyed cotton cloth. Embroidery threads are hand dyed silk floss.

The term suzani derives from a Farsi word for a needle, ‘suzan”. According to Uzbek traditions girls learnt an art of suzani embroidery from an early age and embroidered various things for their dowries. These embroidered pieces were bedcovers, pillow covers and various other textile items. Soul finds its reflection in a work that the soul makes. This is why, one could read a character of a girl by inspecting her suzani. Is she joyous? is she peaceful? Does she pay attention to details?

Please also check out our Suzani embroidery section for some suzani table runners and suzani tableclothes.

This ladies' scarf was made of a sheer pure silk and hand painted in a technique of batik painting. Batik is a wax-resist method of dyeing silk fabric. This particular silk scarf was made by an artist Tatyana Chechina who signed in the corner of the batik silk scarf.

How to wear this silk scarf full of ripe pomegranates? This batik square silk scarf can be worn as a neck scarf or as a head scarf (with sunglasses for that retro look, how about that?) Another great option is to wear it as a silk shawl.

Each hand painted batik silk scarf is unique, therefore, only one item of each scarf is available.
