Floral white pink green hand embroidered suzani pillow cover from Uzbekistan

Our collection of suzani embroidered pillow covers includes hand embroidered suzani pillow covers as well as machine embroidered ones. The base fabric of each suzani pillow cover is an undyed cotton cloth. Embroidery threads are hand dyed silk floss.

The term suzani derives from a Farsi word for a needle, ‘suzan”. According to Uzbek traditions girls learnt an art of suzani embroidery from an early age and embroidered various things for their dowries. These embroidered pieces were bedcovers, pillow covers and various other textile items. Soul finds its reflection in a work that the soul makes. This is why, one could read a character of a girl by inspecting her suzani. Is she joyous? is she peaceful? Does she pay attention to details?

Please also check out our Suzani embroidery section for some suzani table runners and suzani tableclothes.

Floral Art in a Hair Barrette – A Masterpiece by Koshib Omonov

This stunning hand-painted floral barrette is more than just a hair accessory; it’s a true piece of wearable art. Created by Uzbek artist Koshib Omonov, this barrette draws from ancient traditions of mural painting, bringing them to life on a smaller scale. The rich red and yellow flowers, surrounded by luscious green leaves, stand out against a beautiful milk-chocolate background, creating a captivating contrast that evokes the essence of timeless elegance.

Each barrette is carefully crafted from a paper-mache base, screwed to a sturdy metal clip. With three levels of adjustment, this accessory is versatile enough for both fine and thick hair, ensuring a comfortable fit for all. The delicate floral painting, touched with liquid bronze and sealed with several layers of lacquer, adds both a luxurious shine and lasting protection to this remarkable piece.

Exclusively made for UzbekAlive in 2005, this collectible barrette is signed with the artist’s name, the year of creation, and the UzbekAlive signature. With its roots in centuries-old ornamental painting traditions, this barrette transforms artistry into a sophisticated, wearable accessory that you can treasure for years to come.

There are very few barrettes by Koshib Omonov in existence, and what we offer on this website is likely the last of his work you can find anywhere. By purchasing this piece, you are not just buying a hair accessory—you’re investing in a limited-edition work of art that embodies tradition, craftsmanship, and history.
