The ultimate guide to buying lumbar pillow covers
In the cosmos of pillow covers lumbar pillow covers are just one type which are used widely both for health and decorative purposes. Before we dive into nitty-gritty of lumbar pillow covers let’s first start with a definition of a lumbar pillow.
What is lumbar pillow?
Quoting experts from Everlasting Comfort:
“A lumbar pillow supports the spine by filling the gap between the chair and your lower back. This promotes good posture and supports the natural curve of your back.”
In other words, lumbar pillow is something that you place behind your lower back to relieve discomfort associated with extended sitting and to support your back.
Lumbar pillows can be made only for functional purposes and they use as something engineers can do but given that we at UzbekAlive are all about beauty and esthetics we offer amazing lumbar ikat pillow covers to marry function and beauty.
There is a difference between a bolster pillow and a lumbar pillow though the terms are often used interchangeably. Bolster pillow is typically a cylinder while a lumbar pillow is a rectangle.
Lumbar pillow covers sizes
Here is a wonderful guide to sizes of pillows widely used in the USA according to which standard size lumbar pillows are as follows:
- 12”x24” (30cm x 60cm) – small lumbar pillow
- 14” x 36” (90 cm x 30cm – extra long lumbar pillow
We use these industry standard dimensions to make our own lumbar pillow covers. This way finding standard size pillow inserts is an easy task since they are widely available both online and offline.
Decorating with lumbar pillows
Beautiful pillows are a quick and often budget friendly way to add style and interest to interiors. Oftentimes one extra long lumbar pillow is all it takes to transform a space or to add that final unique decor touch.
Let’s take a look at your bed, for example. No matter how minimalistic you (we) are – and we are all playing with minimalism to different extends these days – having a little décor pillow on your bed adds interest and comfort to your bedroom.
Below is how Arianna Belle suggests using a large lumbar pillow for styling a bed.
This setup is very functional – 2 sleeping pillows that are used for sleeping and one lumbar décor pillow that you can set aside in one single step (instead of several steps removing many-many decorative pillows). This is also a great décor layout for a small bedroom where there is not much space where you could place decorative pillows overnight (other than throwing them on a floor, of course).
“Making the bed would be so much less irritating if you just streamlined the number of steps. Here’s our recommendation: Throw a single decorative pillow in front of the basic ones you sleep on and call it a day. “

Here is an example of how one large lumbar pillow can look on a bed. This beautiful burgundy / white lumbar pillow takes a good amount of the bed space and makes a bold statement.
Another option is having two smaller lumbar pillows to decorate a double bed. Take a look at this beauty from:
Using lumbar pillows for sofas
Just as in a bedroom you could spice a room with a lumbar pillow cover, you could use the same simple and budget friendly decorating technique in your living room. Here is what apartmenttherapy experts have to say about using lumbar pillows:
“If your room is lacking texture or color, you can introduce that missing visual interest with the help of a lumbar pillow. And if you want to make cushion fluffing quick, one is really all you need on your sofa.”

Offices don’t have to be boring
Today’s office culture is often associated with sitting for extended periods of time but you don’t need to suffer because of it. In addition to getting up regularly, moving and stretching your muscles, having a good lumbar support is critical.
Having a good lumbar support in a beautiful ikat lumbar pillow cover is double important since it nurtures both the body and the soul. Not only will the lumbar pillow add some color and vibes to your space, it will enhance your creativity and can easily become a conversation starter to connect with other colleagues.
Having a lumbar pillow in a car
Those of us who commute on a daily basis or like to travel in a car may consider having a lumbar pillow in car to support a lower back. This is a suggestion given for trips longer than 15 minutes to keep your back happy. When not driving, that lumbar pillow can sit on back seats to make your car look stylish – seriously, such small touches make a world of difference in a quality of living.
“Use the lumbar support pillow in the car, especially for trips longer than 15 minutes. Nerve pain that travels down the legs while driving is common for individuals with back injuries. The lumbar support pillow helps alleviate the pain in the legs and in the back.”

Ikat fabrics are delicate luxury fabrics and as such require delicate care. Care instructions for each lumbar pillow cover are included in a product description but in general they are hand wash in cold water or dry clean if you wish to retain shape.
